    Once upon a time…

About 4 years ago two friends, Dunk and Terry, stumbled across an article purely by chance regarding Lowland Search and Rescue within the UK. They emailed an enquiry to ALSAR (Association of Lowland Search and Rescue) to see if they could join their local team in Nottinghamshire. To their surprise they discovered that no team covered Nottinghamshire. Both Dunk and Terry had a background in rescue and a love for the outdoors. They applied to ALSAR to create a team to serve the county of Nottinghamshire.

Many letters, emails, telephone calls and meetings were had over a period of a couple of years.

Finally… just over a year ago in May 2012, Nottinghamshire Search and Rescue Team was born, but we still had nothing apart from a letter from the Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police, ideas and a load of enthusiasm.

We enlisted some help and created a Committee. We sent begging letters out to businesses, groups and clubs. We met up with people and begged for money, equipment and help. We managed to get in the local paper and from there we had our first volunteers. We had an open evening and the team grew from strength to strength!

Just over 12 months on, we have 24 volunteers who are all about trained in search & Rescue, a load of rescue and lifesaving equipment, promotional items, a command vehicle, a First Aid Event Team, a trainee search dog and we are a registered charity! We still have a load of ideas to develop the team further and we want more volunteers!

From humble beginnings, an idea and a passion and commitment to want to serve our community, NSART is a real life Voluntary Emergency Service ready to serve the people of Nottinghamshire.
