• Defibrillator Donated By East Midlands Airport

It was agreed at a recent meeting that a member of the committee should wright small article about the recently purchased defibrillator. Being one of the committee members who is not from an emergency services background I was approached and asked if I wouldn’t mind sharing my thoughts, so here goes….

When I first joined NSART and heard Terry and Duncan talking about basket stretchers, thermal imaging cameras and defibrillators, although I had an idea of what they are, II did find it a little daunting.

However, after attending the emergency services show last year and actually seeing a defibrillator I realise what an amazing and vital piece of equipment they are. I also feel confident I could use one if required although I hope I never need to.

For those of you that have never seen a defibrillator, they are about the size of a ps3that comes in its own carry case.

The most amazing thing about the one were getting is it actually talks to you. You take it out of the case, switch it on and do what it tells you, a bit like a speak your weight machine at boots!

When I heard the news that East Midlands Airport was donating £1000 towards getting the defibrillator of our choice I thought brilliant, that’s an amazing bit of kit that will save lives ticked off the wish list.
